DAVID OISTRAKH (1908-1974): A Soviet violinist, violist and conductor, Oistrakh is one of the virtuoso violinists of the 20th century. A child prodigy, he performed his first concert at age 6. Oistrakh survived the horrors of Russia’s October revolution and two world wars, retaining a surprising lyricism and purity of tone in his performances.
