GLENN GOULD (1932-1982): One of the most celebrated and eccentric pianists of the 20th century, Gould was renowned for his interpretations of contrapuntal works, especially by Schoenberg, late Beethoven, and keyboard works by Bach. A child prodigy, Gould studied piano from the age of 3, began composing at 5, and entered the Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto at 10. At 31 he stopped performing to concentrate on writing, broadcasting, and producing his own recordings.
