The Bigger Picture

DETAIL, The Beginning, 2025
We are, as the saying goes, living in “interesting times”. These interesting times inevitably bring out the best, the worst, and the downright surreal, making it challenging not to succumb to indignation or to resignation; to keep a perspective and to see, as it were, the forest for the trees.
This is why we are all superbly lucky to have LEVAN LAGIDZE amongst us. He deserves every capital letter of his name because he can see the bigger picture - from a very great height.
Levan Lagidze, The Beginning, 2019, oil on canvas, 130 x 105cm, private collection
From a perspective that is both flying high above and meandering within the grid of abstracted cities and landscapes, Lagidze aims to unite through shared experiences, saying that art “carries a mission for harmonious existence and happiness”.
He paints within paintings, and to appreciate the full scope of his works requires you to stand still for a moment (or two or one hundred). As you contemplate an interesting detail you will see other layers and textures opening up beneath it until you are pulled within the Lagidze universe, into places you remember or want to know or don’t know at all but get lost exploring without feeling the passage of time.

DETAIL of Cities
For Lagidze, in both art and life all elements are equally important and every detail contains within itself an expression of the whole.
Through colour, rhythm, and texture, Lagidze weaves emotional connections, transporting you to memories and hopes, or pulling you within entirely new and seemingly infinite universes. He says that creating a composition is like measuring eternity with careful steps.

Often when I post a detail of a Lagidze painting people are amazed to discover that it is not a complete artwork of itself and many of his loyal collectors delight in finding and photographing new and intriguing details within his works.
Levan Lagidze’s art allows for endless discoveries, connections and conversations, uniting people from all backgrounds and philosophies.
