INSPIRATION: For Gao Xiang, the horse is a complex force that not only holds the mysteries of the universe and Chinese traditions but is also a symbolic extension of his soul. Shaped like a Tang Dynasty figurine, the Lookout Horse is a cultural reference to a period in Chinese history when the arts flourished. The title of the work reflects a recurrent theme in Gao Xiang’s works - the uncertainty of the future as we are straining to see just beyond the horizon.
