Gao Xiang’s glass and acrylic installations explore the interaction between the object and its environment, referencing the ancient Chinese concept of Shakkei or “borrowed scenery”. The transparency of the glass allows for almost infinite experiential immersions as the work influences the background and the background influences the perception of the work. The work comes alive and changes character when displayed against backgrounds of different colours and textures, and projects a vivid, painting-like shadow. READ MORE
