YEHUDI MENUHIN (1916-1999): An American-born violinist and conductor, Menuhin is one of the greatest violinists of the 20th century. A child prodigy, he demanded a violin at age 3 and debuted at Carnegie Hall at age 11. By 12 he was making solo recordings and performing internationally to critical acclaim. In 1943, he commissioned a Sonata for Solo Violin from Bartók who later remarked that it was played better than he could have ever imagined this piece could be played.
