Levan Lagidze is one of Georgia’s greatest living artists. Every inch of his seductive, gemlike works is like a separate universe.

His works are collected by leading museums worldwide, including the national museums of Georgia, the Moscow’s MoMa and its iconic Tretyakov Gallery, and the Zimmerli Art Museum in the United States. Below are catalogues from his 2018 exhibition in Pall Mall (St. James’s) in London and 2019 exhibition in Soho in New York.

LEVAN LAGIDZE is one of Georgia’s greatest living artists. His philosophy, much needed in today’s world, is to share experiences in harmony and gratitude. “I do not want to surprise or to shock you, I only want to share with you”, he says. [Art] “carries a mission for harmonious existence and happiness.” Lagidze’s work and philosophy reflect the spirit of Georgia: warm, welcoming and simultaneously open and mysterious.

Inspired by Georgia’s spectacular landscapes and cityscapes, Lagidze urges you on a journey of discovery, asking you to look deep beneath the surface of his gem-like, deeply textured pieces to see the hidden universes within. His artworks are a beguiling tapestry of experiences.

The title of Lagidze’s latest series, “Bach Exercises”, derives from the rhythm of his artworks where, similarly to Bach, each accent is both precise and unexpected. Listening to Bach as he works, Lagidze shares his perceptions. “Listening to Bach I see the infinite … Each measure, rhythm, accent and pause is so precise that his music is always new and unexpected. This is the magic of universal composition. The music you can see or the painting you can listen to…” The series spans three cities - Tbilisi, London, and now New York, with new works created for each location.
