Some have made the comparison between Lagidze’s work and Gerhard Richter. An emotional exploration through colour and texture is a thread between these great artists, each of whom has taken their own path.

Compare, for example, this fragment from a 2016 Lagidze to a 1984 Richter.

Although Lagidze is legendary is Georgia, it is our loss that the iron curtain and post-Soviet turbulence has kept him from becoming more broadly known in the West until now.
